When cons​idering what types or organisations are likely to suffer a data breach in the next 12 months Australians trust health organisations and airlines to protect their data but expect telco and government agencies to have a data breach. Meanwhile, the level of comfort in organisations monitoring social media varies depending on what it will be used for with high support for national security but low support for marketing purposes.​

  • Aussies believe telcos are the organisations most likely to suffer a data breach with 1 in 6 Australians expecting a data breach at a telco in the next 12 months.
  • Healthcare organisations are the most trusted by Australian consumers to protect their data from unauthorised access with 58% saying a data beach in the next 12 months is unlikely, the highest of all 12 countries surveyed.
  • The majority of Aussies are comfortable with organisations monitoring social media to detect possible terrorist activity and identify public issues and concern, but not to develop targeted advertising and special offers.​
