Compared to the other 11 countries surveyed, Malaysians overall are more trusting that organisations will protect their data, recording the highest "not likely" responses globally for all organisations except healthcare. The level of comfort with organisations monitoring social media depends on the intended purpose with highest support for identifying public issues and concerns, but least support to detect possible terrorist activity.

  • Telco providers are the least trusted by Malaysian consumers to protect their data with 52% responding that a data breach at a telco is likely in the next 12 months.
  • Financial service organisations are the most trusted by Malaysian consumers to protect their data with 61% saying that a data breach in the next year is unlikely.
  • Only 59% of Malaysians are comfortable with social media being monitored to detect possible terrorist activity, much lower than nearby Australia (79%) and New Zealand (73%).
