Mexico

The perceived personal data vulnerability levels among Mexican consumers is high in banks and telecommunications companies, while threat of data breach is lowest in airlines. Data security concerns among other organizations such as healthcare companies, utilities, government agencies and retailers are higher than that in airlines.

  • More than half of surveyed Mexican respondents (52 percent) are concerned about their personal data held by banks. According to Condusef (The National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services), 2.89 million claims were reported in 2014 for possible financial fraud caused by identity theft, forgery of personal data and lost or stolen bank cards.
  • Concerns about unauthorized access at Airlines is relatively low (31 percent), probably driven by the fact that there have been no instances of any major cyber-attacks in this sector over the last
    few years.

Mexicans favor the use of biometrics, with 85% saying that biometric technology should be adopted by banks, government agencies and retailers to protect the security of personal data.
